Small Groups
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” Acts 2:42
John Wesley believed that Christians are always moving to perfection in faith. As part of that journey, Wesley believed that small groups were essential.
United Methodist Women
Ongoing Meetings
Many of our members choose to participate also in smaller groups, which are called “circles,” where they socialize together and continue their mission of support, education and service to the local church, to the larger community, and to world beyond.
Women of all ages are welcome to participate. Meetings for most of the circles happen during the daytime, but there is also an active circle in the evening, for working women. We have something for everyone!
The United Methodist Women (UMW) is community of women whose purpose is threefold. To know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ. To develop a creative supportive fellowship. To expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
The UMW meets for monthly general meetings, usually for an educational program and a meal. In addition, many of our members meet in regular intervals in small groups that we call “Circles.”
United Methodist Women is a fellowship of women whose purpose is to know God, to be His Hands and Feet, and to develop a creative, supportive fellowship. This group of women meets monthly for fellowship and fun. They also have fund raisers such as the annual Yard Sale in June to raise money so they can contribute to several local projects, to mission projects around the state and to missions globally..
If you are interested in being a part of a mission oriented organization that was founded 140 years ago by a handful of women who recognized the necessity for the medical and educational needs of women and children around the world, United Methodist Women is for you and we welcome you.
United Methodist Women unit is comprised of multiple small groups or “circles” that vary in size from six to over twenty members. Each small group meets monthly to engage in work toward the United Methodist Women purpose. Meetings generally include devotionals, response moment sharing, a program, prayer calendar and concerns, mission planning/activities, support and fellowship. We are organized to support local and worldwide mission.
Women members of Leesburg United Methodist Church are not “automatically” members of United Methodist Women and members of the United Methodist Women are not required to be members of the United Methodist Church. Membership in the Leesburg United Methodist Women is open to any woman who indicates her desire to belong, and to participate in support of the purpose.
